The car

Ten thousand built. Rather fewer now.

The S Series arrived in March 1962, only about ten weeks after the R Series it replaced, and ran until the AP5 took over in May 1963. Roughly 10,009 were assembled at Chrysler's Mile End plant in South Australia — 4,513 manuals and 5,496 automatics — in one body style only, the four-door sedan. Against the R Series it gained a revised grille with the Valiant name across the top, round tail lights, larger brakes and a bigger fuel tank.

Under the bonnet is the car's whole argument: the 225-cubic-inch Slant Six, canted 30 degrees to the right, long-stroke, absurdly durable, and still wearing its Super 225 air cleaner in the photographs. This car has the three-speed manual gearbox — one of the 4,513 manuals, the less common of the two S Series transmissions.

This Valiant has never been restored. It is an original car, and the only exception is a respray and refresh in April 2015. It comes with its original books, and it is currently registered on a Victorian club permit. The paint, trim and engine bay all present well. The car has travelled 99,576 miles (160,252 km).
