The car
Bavarian design, Sydney fibreglass.
The Goggomobil was the work of Hans Glas GmbH of Dingolfing in Bavaria — a genuine four-seat car scaled down until it was barely three metres long, with an air-cooled two-stroke twin of 293cc mounted behind the rear axle and a four-speed gearbox.
What makes the Australian cars interesting is who built them. Bill Buckle's Buckle Motors in Sydney assembled Goggomobils under licence, and rather than import steel bodies, made them here in fibreglass — a material Buckle knew well and one that sidestepped the import restrictions of the day. The family's understanding is that this is one of those Buckle-built fibreglass cars.
It is original and unrestored, still wearing its own paint, with its interior present. The engine is not known to run, so it is offered as a project rather than as a driver — but it is intact and complete, which is the hard part, and these are simple cars to bring back.
For scale: a restored T300 in Europe has made up to €15,000 at auction. In Australia they come up rarely enough that there is no reliable market to quote.
